May 2011
Beck Prosper Limited were very privileged to receive a visit from our local MP, Mr Chris Kelly and Councillor Patrick Harley on Tuesday 19th April.Since the Deepwater Horizon disaster there has been significant interest in securing the integrity of the supply chain within our industry and Beck Prosper has long been considered a safe source for quality bolting products.
The demands within our industry, and most particularly the subsea sector, are becoming more and more stringent pushing us and our supply chain into new developments.
Our relatively recent acquisition by Beck Industries has also led to significant plans for investment in our manufacturing facilities to attack these issues. Our new French owners have been particularly impressed with the quality and flexibility of our Black Country workforce.
More than 60% of production is directly exported to all the world markets for our product - we are a truly global business.
One of the biggest problems created from this growth is attracting talented local people with the right skills to the company. We currently have vacancies in most departments. We are starting a second shift at our manufacturing unit to cope with the increased volume. This will require several skilled machinists for traditional capstan and sawing work as well as CNC setter/operators. We have specific needs in the areas of quality and inspection to control this production. We are also struggling to find a first class Metallurgist with relevant experience. We are hoping to attract some talent from within our industry with some previous knowledge of our products to fill these positions.
Staff at Beck Prosper would like to pass on our congratulations to our own Commercial Director, Ron York, who in his spare time is the chairman of Bridgnorth Musical Theatre Company. Ron recently accepted an award on behalf of the theatre company from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association for the best musical award for their 2010 show 'Brigadoon'. Ron performs at every annual show and he played the leading role of Tommy Albright in the award winning Brigadoon.
The Beck Prosper staff are looking forward to seeing him in next year's performance of Beauty and the Beast. We wonder which part Ron will play?
April 2011
Beck Prosper have had a staggering first quarter. The turnover for March yet again was over and above our target and we anticipate an even better 2nd quarter. Our owners, Beck Industries, are fully committed to growing Beck Prosper Limited and have significant investment plans in place.
We have a new plating facility that is due to be installed on 11th April into our Aberdeen branch. This will certainly enhance our efficiency for coated products.
Currently our Kingswinford site is split in two and, although the distance between Building 19, the manufacturing facility, and Building 67, the Head Office, is less than a mile, it has become clear that as the company grows so the need to be united under one roof becomes more apparent. This will certainly help establish closer links and improve productivity. Over the next twelve months the company will commence and complete a review of all available alternatives. It is going to be an exciting year!
Once again we have been busy recruiting, this is vital to ensure that we become more proficient as the business continues to grow at its current fast rate
Jodi Williams returned to Beck Prosper in January. Jodi is working with the administration and progressing team.
Luke Smith joined us in February on a temporary contract to cover Sherrel's maternity leave and is working with the specials team.
We have also received news that on Monday 4th April Sherrel gave birth to a baby girl whom they have named Ashley. Congratulations go to Sherrel and Steve from all at Beck Prosper.
David Taylor - Bills joined us in March as Office Assistant.
Jayne Smith joined us in March as Sales Administrator.
Neil Edmonstone joined us this month he will be our sales representative based from our Aberdeen office.
Beck Prosper welcome all our new employees to the business and as always we offer them our full support in their new roles.
Please note that due to bank holidays in the UK our offices will be closed for one day on Monday 25th April and again on Monday 2nd May 2011.
Please note that due to the Royal Wedding our offices will be closed on Friday 29th April.
March 2011
Our parent company in France is very proud to announce that the roundabout outside the head office in Armentieres has been named 'Edmond Beck' in honour of the son of the founder of Beck Crespel as a high integrity fastener manufacturer. The now 30,000 sq ft factory has been in the Beck family since the early 1900s and the current owners, Hugues and Karine Charbonnier, the fourth generation to be involved in the business, were delighted to see their grandfather recognised by the local community.
Edmond's son, and Karine's father, Christian Beck said, 'My father was an engineer by training, ingenious by need and a businessman by necessity'.
From humble beginnings the company now employs 300 people in Armentieres and another 300 in factories located in France, Belgium, Germany and the UK.
Here in the UK our own CITB qualified member of staff Colin Evans has been busy putting together a detailed training programme in Kingswinford. Colin is building up a multi skilled team of fork lift operatives who are certified on both counter balance and reach trucks.
Adam Dean has been promoted to full time Stock Control Supervisor. Adam has been employed for a number of years within the company and has become an integral member of the warehouse team. He is proof of the company's policy of promoting capable staff from within.
In line with our commitment to Health and Safety, our Training Manager Chris Morris has been busy delivering refresher Manual Handling training sessions to all staff at our Kingswinford office.
Chris also recently announced his engagement to Ilona Luotyte, Beck Prosper's Sales Administration Supervisor. Everyone in the company sends them congratulations and best wishes for the future.
February 2011
There have been some very interesting developments in the Oil and Gas Industry in recent months not least the demand to improve the quality, integrity and compliance of nut supplies.Beck Prosper Ltd (BPL) has been serving the petrochemical and energy industries as a high integrity bolting manufacturer for over forty years but has previously never had the need to manufacture its own nuts by the forging process.
BPL has always machined nuts in-house where higher quality is required and purchased commercially produced forged nuts for most petrochemical and general fastener requirements since this is a significantly more cost effective method for volume manufacture. Product selection by the clients has usually been dictated by commercial constraints.
BPL historically enjoyed close relations with many European suppliers who manufactured high quality forged nuts to ASTM standards however most of these sources have subsequently either closed or become distributors for Far Eastern products due to the commercial demands of the industry.
BPL decided in 2001 that it should deal directly with these Far Eastern sources and subsequently set up testing facilities in China to test products throughout manufacture and prior to despatch. BPL developed close relationships with carefully selected manufacturers who were willing to work to our stringent testing regime and with sources capable of producing quality products for our downstream markets, such as ASTM A194 2H, so that our supply chain for these items is not compromised. Around two years ago the Subsea sector started to ask for a higher integrity fastener with more demanding properties and an improved process control.
BPL has been very closely involved with the development of the Global Subsea sector which has increased the focus on product integrity post Deepwater Horizon and other well documented issues. BPL has relished this challenge and our Global Technical Manager currently sits on the ASTM Bolting Committee and AWHEM North Sea Committee which keeps us at the forefront of current trends in industry requirements and allows us to anticipate the changing needs of what is becoming an increasingly demanding industry. Requirements are increasing in documentation, testing, inspection and metallography and this is expected to further increase as more severe environments are exploited and legislation intensifies.
On the surface bolting appears to be a relatively straightforward product but given the multitude of exacting demands it can get increasingly complicated and BPL is rightly and widely regarded in the industry as a safe pair of hands.
So what are we doing to address these new challenges and maintain integrity?
We have found that most of our current sources can produce nuts acceptable to the ASTM standards but there are some concerns with achieving the heightened specification demanded by Subsea clients.
BPL has developed a manufacturing route to satisfy these demands by utilising a company within the Beck Industries Group situated in France called Cousin et Malicet, a European manufacturer of hot forged nuts and one of the last still producing such items. They have developed a range of hot forged nuts which address the above issues by working to a specification and testing regime far greater than the current ASTM standard. These nuts are able to satisfy the design requirements of major end users and specifiers such as Petrobras and StatOil as well as Christmas Tree and Wellhead equipment suppliers.
To cope with the increase in the quality demands BPL have doubled the size of the Inspection Department and can offer Positive Material Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection and 100% Visual and Dimensional Inspection. We have installed a Metallography Laboratory and recruited a 4th Metallurgist into the company. All this represents a major investment to guarantee the supply and integrity of an item as simple as a nut.
January 2011
Beck Prosper would like to wish all of our customers a Happy and a Prosperous New Year.2010 hasn't been an easy year by any means exacerbated by Deepwater Horizon and the banking crisis.
However a sterling effort has been made throughout 2010 and Beck Prosper are delighted to have finished the year with a turnover of over £14 Million. We put in the book over £1 million orders in for 12 consecutive months which is a fantastic achievement.
This gives a strong order book going into January 2011 to give us a potentially great start thanks to our orders received being on target in 2010.
The Oil price remains high and there are positive signs of this being a trigger for increased project activity for 2011.
Our new owners have a strong commitment to seeing us grow in 2011. They have taken an active interest since acquiring the business in March and we are still to see many of the synergies that will derived as a benefit to us all. There is no doubt we are much stronger under our "Beck Industries" banner which makes us a global player and a more diverse manufacturer.
Arlene McKenzie joined us in November at our Aberdeen branch as Office Administrator. Arlene is working alongside Kelly Rennie on some of our frame agreement accounts. She has fitted in extremely well and is already an integral part of the team.
Dean Longden joined us in December and he is working in our busy and ever expanding sales team. Dean already has knowledge and experience within the bolting industry and he is settling into the team extremely well.
Joanne Jones, Marketing Co-Ordinator, has announced the expected arrival of her first child which is due in July. Best wishes go to Joanne and Neil in the coming months.
We wish Arlene and Dean all the success for their future at Beck Prosper.
December 2010
During November here at Beck Prosper we secured significant new business 25% above budget with some interesting and challenging products for both upstream and downstream.Raymond Norris and the supervisors at our manufacturing unit, Building 19, have seen a 40% growth in production activity, their best month ever and we are now recruiting for a new shift to start in January 2011.
We have taken delivery of new thread rolling equipment mirroring the manufacturing excellence of Beck Industries, France. This will help to improve our efficiency, capabilities and lead times. Many more machines are being built in France for us at the moment and should start arriving in the New Year. We have set some ambitious but achievable targets for our manufacturing unit for next year. The pressure is on!
Aberdeen is being reorganised to accommodate a new plating line being delivered in 2011. This will certainly enhance our efficiency for coated products.
Our IT department has just completed a major overhaul of data communications between our UK head office and our manufacturing facility. The sites are located on the same industrial estate, but are 1 km apart. The installation of a high speed microwave link has ensured that fast access to our manufacturing systems is ensured as is access to email and stored data. This has vastly improved communication speed. They are also in the process of linking the IT Systems with those of Beck Industries. It is envisaged that this will be completed in 2011 and will greatly improve data transfer and information sharing across the whole group and provide much needed symbiosis as we look to extract synergies.
We see the return of Darren Porter back to the UK who has been working at Beck Crespel for the past 6 months. His time at Beck has greatly assisted in bringing the sites closer together. It's great to have such a character back at Beck Prosper; his sense of humour hasn't improved, however, his French is bien mieux.
Darren Porter and Derek Mackie have enthusiastically taken on new roles of Global Business Development Managers for Beck Industries. They will be travelling the world visiting our valued existing clients whilst working alongside the marketing team to develop potential new clients. Their role will be most important to ensure that a client has access to the right part of the group for the correct product and service. Often a client will deal with more than one group company depending on their requirements but this can now be handled through one relationship.
Chris Morris is taking training to a new level by creating a new training matrix and database. This will enable him to assist managers in assessing the competency levels of our excellent staff and implementing training schemes to raise proficiency throughout the organisation. This exercise also enhances the linkage between departments.
November 2010
October has been a busy month in re-structuring of staff to ensure in the continuing improvement and growth at Beck Prosper. In Kingswinford Alan Simpson has been promoted to assistant warehouse manager, Alan has taken massive strides forward in the last 12 months and has become an important part of the management structure within Beck Prosper.
Ian Crabtree has moved on and he now works for a company in a completely new sector of the industry. We wish Ian every success for the future.
Sarah Beckett has moved over to our specials team following Ian's departure. Sarah was the most obvious choice to fill the gap and put her 13 year's knowledge and expertise into the team. Stuart Dainty has settled well into Beck Prosper and he has now also moved to the specials team to work with Mark and Sarah.
Rebecca Ledbury is expanding her skills and has moved over to our progressing team to assist Richard Wilkinson.
Pavel Razek has been on loan to our Aberdeen branch, he has been sharing his packing knowledge and expertise, acting as a bridge for ideas between the branches and he has since become an integral part of the Aberdeen team. His efficiency and keenness hasn't gone unnoticed by the Aberdeen staff and they didn't want to let him come back to Kingswinford. Therefore Pav has now been transferred to the Aberdeen branch on a permanent basis.
We also welcome back Kelly Rennie at Aberdeen. Kelly had a 3 month break seeing a bit of the world and it's great to see her back.
We are delighted that the staff have adapted very well to their new roles and as always they receive everyone's full support at Beck Prosper.
We have also received news from Sherrel Withey in our Sales Administration team that she is expecting her second child in April. Everyone at Beck Prosper is happy for Sherrel and Steve and we wish her well during her pregnancy.
October 2010
Beck Prosper have recently installed a laboratory at the Kingswinford facility to enable most metallographic functions to be carried out in-house. Equipment installed includes sample preparation and polishing equipment, together with a range of microscopes and a micro hardness tester.
The lab has been established in order to allow Beck Prosper to carry out current and anticipated demands for metallographic testing incorporated in client's specification for bolting.
The new company brochure is hot off the press and was delivered this week. You can now download the brochure off our website. We are also well under way with the brochure data inserts which are near completion and work has started on the bolting specification sheets which will also soon be available to download.
Staff have their new uniforms and the new signage on the exterior of the building is now in place bearing the new name and logo.
Richard Laurens, Sales Director, has recently become a proud Grandfather to his first grand child. Richard's daughter Claire gave birth to Orla Winifred Cooper on Wednesday 25th August weighing a healthy 7lb 8ozs. Claire and Orla are both very well and we hope Granddad Laurens will be bringing his grand daughter to meet the Beck Prosper staff soon.

Letter to Customers
Letter to Suppliers
We are pleased to announce that due to the takeover by Beck Industries in March 2010, Prosper Distribution Limited will now change its name to Beck Prosper Limited.
We feel this name change better reflects the merger of two such strong brands in high integrity bolting.
The Prosper name has a global reputation stretching back as far as 1969 and the unique 3 rings logo symbolises the 3 die rolling machine which the company originally manufactured before becoming a bolting manufacturer. Prosper and Beck felt that these attributes were too valuable to lose therefore both brands have been incorporated into the new name and logo design.
Due to the name change the marketing and IT teams are working on new company literature and a new website design which you should see rolled out in the coming weeks. We will advise when they are live.
New signage is being produced for the exterior of the buildings and staff are awaiting their new uniforms to reflect our status as a world player. The Marketing team are working on re-vamping our reception area and meeting rooms to coincide with the new modern facilities recently opened at Beck Crespel.
Prosper remains firmly at the forefront of offshore bolting especially as the industry wrestles with the subsea challenges presented by deeper and deeper exploration.
The Beck brand also remains strong in this area but is perhaps even better known for its work in Nuclear and alternative energy sectors such as wind. The company anticipates being actively involved in these areas with the promised investment in the UK over the next decade.
Beck Prosper has continually delivered on quality which has enabled the company to celebrate not only reaching but exceeding monthly targets during difficult market conditions.
Since the takeover Beck Prosper has recruited in all areas of the business, bringing the total number of employees to over 135 with interviews still taking place to fill more vacancies. We hope that this continued investment in people, coupled with significant training initiatives will further enhance our customer satisfaction in the second half of 2010.
This month the Kingswinford office welcomes new recruits Stuart Dainty as Power Generation and Special Sales Coordinator, Rebecca Ledbury as office assistant, and Siuzana Ramazanova as Sales Administration Assistant. Suzy spent some time with us earlier this year as a foreign exchange student and we have been delighted to offer her a full time position. All are settling in well to their new roles.
Jo Jones and Vicki Clark completed their 5K run in the Race for Life event in July in just 31 minutes raising much needed funds for Cancer Research. Thank you to all that contributed and their support. Jo and Vicki are already training to compete in the 10K event next year.
July 2010
Although England are out of the World Cup spirits are still high at Prosper.
We exceeded our target in June with our best month for orders received since November 2008, In time honoured tradition the last weekend of June was our annual stock take / tidy up weekend. It was a great team effort with all the members of staff pulling together to spruce up the UK headquarters in Kingswinford. Well done everyone!
A sad au revoir was said to Darren Porter, Export Sales as he made the move over to Northern France to our parent company Beck Crespel, The early reports are that he has settled in well and the schoolboy French seems to be improving. Bon chance Darren.
Ian Crabtree, Power Generation and Specials Co-Ordinator, attended the Power Gen exhibition in Amsterdam along with fellow colleagues Stephane from Beck Crespel, Jean-Pierre from Beck Technologies and Daniel from MSH. It was a great experience for Ian to attend his first exhibition as part of Beck Industries.
We welcome new recruits Elaine Spencer in QA and Lucy Shaw in Marketing who are settling in well to the life of bolting.
Meanwhile Jo Jones, Marketing Co-Ordinator, and Vicki Clark, Sales, are training hard together for their 5k run in the race for life event in aid of Cancer Research in July.
June 2010
Once again Prosper exceeded targets with another superb month, finishing ahead of budget both in terms of sales received and orders despatched. A steady month ended on a crazy high with all hands to the pump in the last week as both office and works got involved to ensure essential orders went out on time. There were exceptional efforts all around especially from the hardy few in the works who put in back to back 16 hour shifts for three days and gave up their Bank Holiday along with Ron York and Nicole Pemberton. Superb effort folks.
The recruitment carousel continues to spin with new arrivals on board in a number of departments - both office and works based.
The additional personnel joining the various teams has enabled Prosper to shuffle existing staff into roles where they can have a more direct influence on the day to day machinations. For example Paul Hill and Phil Gibbard now head up a new administration department tasked with ensuring that the more complicated orders receive additional stringent contract review and are closely scrutinised right through to despatch to ensure all processes stay on track. Tracey Hughes has switched buildings to Unit 19, our production facility, bringing the benefit of her years of strong administration experience. All these slight changes are designed to further improve the flow of information and material through the company with enhanced customer satisfaction the ultimate end product.
As well as recruiting staff Prosper are also glad to see the return of driver Wilf Tunstall following his time off after a major operation. Welcome back Wilf, good to see you up and about again. We also welcome back Heidi Fellows following her maternity leave.
Visits have continued to Beck's head office in Armentieres. These trips have been very successful in further understanding how both companies function and extracting those all important synergies. We have even utilised car boot space for some "hot shot" stock transfers! Some staff took advantage of the trip to visit Ypres and the emotional daily service at the Menin Gate for the fallen in the World Wars.
Prosper are in the process of ordering new uniforms liveried to reflect Beck Industries involvement.
May 2010
The good times continue at Prosper.
May 2010 saw Prosper record their highest monthly sales in over 18 months. The whole team also worked incredibly hard to maintain the on-time delivery performance above the 95% KPI that we set ourselves. The feedback from our customers has been most encouraging. Long may this positivity continue!
Prosper will be present in Amsterdam participating at Powergen 2010 where a representative will be on the Beck stand. Please come over and say 'hello' if you are attending.

As part of the entente cordiale with new owners Beck, Darren Porter will be heading out to join the sales team in Armentieres. This should be a major test of his schoolboy French! Bon chance and au revoir Darren!
The European exchange theme is continued at Kingswinford with two new employees joining the team. A warm Prosper welcome to Bea from Spain and Siuzana from Lithuania.
We have made excellent progress in filling the ten vacancies identified last month but we are still interested in hearing from anyone with industry knowledge.
Please contact our HR department with your details recruitment@beckprosper.com
April 2010
Prosper Visit Beck Crespel
April saw the first group of Prosper staff visit the headquarters of new owners Beck Crespel in Armentieres, Northern France.
Karine and Hugo Charbonnier have kindly extended an invitation to all Prosper employees to visit their facility and utilise this opportunity to discuss any concerns that they may have.
It is a great opportunity for the Prosper staff and the feedback from the groups that have been so far is that they have been made to feel very welcome and were very well looked after by both their new owners and fellow co-workers. The Prosper employees were given a tour of the manufacturing facility and were most impressed by the engineering capabilities and the standard of the products being manufactured. Beck's new offices, which have only been occupied for a few weeks, are very spacious, modern and equally as impressive.
Each member of staff spent a little time with their French counterpart and this has improved both relations and communications between the companies. Many of Beck's systems and processes were recognised to be of future benefit to Prosper and there are already plans to implement some of them in the UK.
It became clear to those first Prosper visitors that the acquisition by Beck Industries was a step in the right direction for all concerned. Prosper now have access to much larger stock levels and investment plans are already in place for new machinery at the UK headquarters in Kingswinford and 10 new vacancies have already been created.
More trips are planned for the next few months and those organising their excursions to the continent are very excited about their visit to Armentières.
March 2010
Acquisition of Prosper Distribution Limited by Beck Industries
We are very pleased to announce that Prosper Distribution Limited (PDL) has joined Beck Industries, Europe's leading manufacturer of special bolts for the power generation and oil industries.
The "Prosper" name has been well known for years as one of the very few top British manufacturers of special bolts for subsea, petrochemical and power generation industries. Thanks to its recent merger with Midsteel and subsequent rationalisation and sales success, the company is expanding strongly especially in the subsea industry.
PDL now employs over 120 people in Kingswinford, in the heart of the Midlands and in Aberdeen, the Scottish base for the North Sea subsea activities. PDL sales exceed 13M GBP, including worldwide exports.
PDL perfectly complements Beck Industries, both for sales areas and product portfolio. Beck Industries brings to Prosper a large and diversified manufacturing capacity and synergies will range from technical to purchasing and sales.
The new group turnover will exceed 65M Euros and this acquisition will further strengthen the current impetus in all sites.
PDL and Beck both share the same absolute resolve regarding quality and safety. Our clients operate facilities and equipments where human lives and the environment are at risk. In such an acquisition it was a prerequisite that the quality culture matched. Our clients will benefit from the advantages of bringing together two companies with a similar approach to business and a similar attitude to integrity. Our ability to serve international contracts is also further enhanced. We have solid grounds to be excited and ambitious for the new venture and for the international development of Beck Industries.
The merger between the companies will be seamless and PDL will continue to function as a market leader in the high integrity bolting industry with Martin Boulter remaining as the Managing Director.
Beck Industries is a 4th generation family-owned group, focussed on the manufacturing of special bolting, operating 8 sites in France, Germany, Belgium, China and now, the United Kingdom.

February 2010
Sees us embarking on our travel programme for 2010.
Sales in January have been encouragingly brisk, 37% above budget, and it has been a busy month internally despite some dreadful weather.
During 2009 we hosted a stream of client visits and audits keen to see our new facilities.
Our intentions for 2010 are to return these visits and get back out into the marketplace.
We have already committed in excess of GBP 100k to our travel budget for 2010 and have determined our specific plan for the first six months.
This will include visits to both suppliers and customers.
We believe it pays to invest in "getting out there".
If you would like a visit please let us know as our staff are always keen to meet and greet with new people and experience different cultures.
The Prosper logo is derived from the original thread rolling machine that the company used to manufacture before being encouraged into making the bolts themselves by BP in the 1970s.
Hopefully you will be seeing this logo soon sported by our liveried staff.
January 2010
All the staff at Prosper Distribution Limited would like to wish you a Happy New Year and a Prosperous 2010.
We look forward to receiving your enquiries and assisting you with your requirements.

September sees the return of Chris Morris as our new Training Manager. We hope to utilise skills obtained from his recent teaching qualification and draw upon the knowledge within the organisation to capitalise upon the learning potential of what is already an exceptional team. Chris intends to identify areas which require further training through discussions with his colleagues and by analysing the data gathered by our KPIs. This information will be used to develop a training scheme which he believes will appeal to the varied learning styles currently at Prosper.
We are delighted to appoint Steve Blakey as manager for our distribution warehouse. Steve has impressed since joining us as a stock controller and we are delighted to be able to promote from within.
Steve will continue to oversee stock control whilst liaising closely with Raymond Norris, manager at our manufacturing plant located on the same estate, to smooth product flow and improve our OTD.
We have appointed Paul Hill from our sales department as our Sub Con Manager to focus and work with our local supply base as their performance naturally impacts greatly on our own. From his sales role Paul has a solid product knowledge and good customer focus which should enhance our production department further.
Finally we are delighted to announce that Miss Joanne Lunn, our marketing coordinator, is now Mrs Joanne Jones. Our congratulations go to Joanne and Neil on their recent wedding.
August 2009
